A great read for the younger reader. Ghosts are always popular and this story is told well.

Although only a year apart in terms of publication, Hilda Offen’s illustrations in A Treasury of Mother Goose are not quite as appealing as dePaola’s. Oddly, about half the book’s illustrations are in color while the other half appear in black and white. To be precise, the first two pages have color illustrations, followed by two in black and white, followed by two colored pages, and so on. The illustrations have an “outdated” appearance when compared to other artistic styles that appear in contemporary children’s books.… (mehr)

This is a favorite that we come back to in our hose time and time again. I think that it would be particularly useful with very early learners and or ELL students but isn't so juvenille that other young readers wouldn't like it. I would use it time and again for a 'brain break' when my students need to get up and move around (possibly even in a 4th or 5th grade classroom).

Great read aloud for little ones with actions. Turns rounda t the end with the mother bear telling her baby off for playing with noisy humans.
