too farcical for me. Mix of myths amongst a female team all looking out for their families in different ways. Tries too hard and hence fails, not even funny.

Mix of aztec, mayan, Indian, drudic and who knows what else all thrown together. Starts off with a half-jaguar goddesses trying to lose the half and become fully human. She's chasing her fully jaguar-goddess mum across the world. Along the way she picks up various people who each have their own sob-story. They all end up in the lost city of the dead, that doesn't have any dead people in it. There's a caving section which actually wasn't totally off the mark. Unlike the subsequent climb which was rubbish.

Only finished because I dislike leaving books unread, even more than I disliked the story.

This is my first steampunk book. I enjoyed this story. And I love the fact that it was a freebie. I love when a free book is actually one that is interesting.

The Kaiser Affair starts with two detectives being assigned to capture an escaped thief, Ranulf Kaiser, who also happens to be the brother of The Minister. Bettina and Arjuna are the detectives given the task of finding Ranulf and bringing him back in without letting others know.

Bettina and Arjuna are married and I found them very entertaining. They go through a lot of trouble trying to capture Ranulf. They travel through their city and also to the floating isle and discover a lot about the isle while there.

I did learn that this series is not written by just one author but different authors which will be quite different from other series I have read before.

When Katja is bitten by a Fenrir, a beast reminiscent of a werewolf; her sister, Freya sets out on a journey to save her from becoming a beast herself. With the help of Erik, Freya's husband, they cross Ysland in search of the cure.
They run into Wren, a vala or healer, and Omar (from book 1), an immortal from another land. The 4 of them joined together to battle not only the Fenrir and his beasts, but the queen from the city where the plague seems to have originated.
I really like the story and characters. Mr. Lewis has a very captivating style of writing. I like that we got a more in depth look at Omar and can not wait to read Book #3.… (mehr)
