White Privilege
I'm starting this out as a booklist, and we'll see where it goes from there. In library school I took a class on diversity studies ... that's where I found out about White Privilege. I'm Caucasian, of Euro-American ancestry, and I ask that our discussions be inclusive of all who have anything to say about this genre.
Ideally, if your opinions could also include a supportive citation, that would be cool. (Explanation: In my library school class, our required online discussions on white privilege became hideously nasty until I suggested that people back up their opinions with some sort of reference supporting their positions...only then did our conversations become civil).
My introduction to this topic was Peggy McIntosh's remarkable essay, "Unpacking the Knapsack of White Privilege" which appeared decades ago in the Peace and Freedom magazine published by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (founded 1915 by Jane Addams) -- luckily, it has been republished since then.
