Eine Nachricht vom Verwalter deiner Gruppe Do not post your title search in this thread. It will not be answered and may be deleted. Read and follow the instructions below.

1) Start your book search by clicking on Post a new topic.

• On the group homepage https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/724/Name-that-Book, click Post a new topic.

Enter a helpful subject title that includes genre and a few key words. Words like 'Help' or 'Find this book' or 'Search' are not helpful.

•Subject lines become locked a few minutes after a thread is created and can only be edited by an admin. If you have made an error, go to https://www.librarything.com/topic/349163 to request a change. Do not start a duplicate thread with a new title.

•Long subject lines are cut off, so it's wise to keep them short. Examples:
YA Ghost story
SciFi Boy lost in space
Mystery set in Iceland
Poem about a woman's garden
Children's series about circus children

•Many members of this group only open topics they think they can help with, so your subject line is important for getting the right people to read your post — the ones who probably know your book!

•Looking for more than one book? Please start a new thread for each title you seek.

2) Enter all the book details you remember in the body of the message.

•This may be information like:
Fiction or nonfiction
Plot
When you think it was written and when you read it (10 years ago; about 1970...)
Book's intended audience
The country or region in which you read it.
Anything else you remember about the title, author, illustrations, cover, characters, setting, binding, or size of book
•It's easier for members to read your message if you use standard spelling, capitalization, and punctuation, along with breaking longer sections into paragraphs.

3) Check back for responses!

•Members will post their suggestions directly to your topic, so no e-mail addresses, please!

•LT does not send notifications when there is a response to a message, so title seekers will have to return to the thread to check for responses. New users may find it easier to bookmark the page.

•Some books are found quickly, while others are found after time and discussion of similar books. If your query is not solved in a few days, please feel free to comment on your own topic in order to bump it back to the top of the list.

4) And please, we'd love to hear back from you on whether or not your book's been found!

•If your query is answered, please add a comment to your thread to let us know. This will help anyone else who's looking for the same book!

•"Found" will be added to the topic title of threads where books have been confirmed as identified.

5) Confused or have a question not covered here? Visit our general help thread https://www.librarything.com/topic/349163

Visit the group's WikiThing page for more suggestions for finding your book and for a list of Frequently Sought Stories.

Something that confused me at first. The sidebar with links to 'Your Posts' and 'Started by You' only appear if you open a thread (any thread). They don't show up on the Group main page.

How long do we wait before bumping Our thread?

>13 Madiha27: & >14 Madiha27: Welcome! There's no set waiting period for bumping your thread. You could do it daily if you really wanted to, but I imagine that would get old fast. :)

LT doesn't have talk folders, but I plan on adding "Found" to topic titles in the near future.

Please don't bump threads daily, it makes it very hard to find threads that do and don't have new information.

And the people who are likely to help you don't necessarily log on to LT everyday. I would wait at least a week or ten days before bumping so various people can encounter your post. As me old ma used to say as she she chased me around the kitchen, "Patience is a virtue..."

May I suggest a few more pointers for fine tweaking? As well as the year it was read and the year it was likely to have been published (because I've sometimes nearly suggested a book but then realised if it was published in the 2000s, it couldn't have been read in the 1980s) I would include the country the book was set in/ published in/ read in. I've discovered that I haven't heard of a lot of books that are considered childhood classics in North America because I grew up in the UK/ British Commonwealth. And, I'm sure, vice versa :0)

amanda4242 Two suggestions:

1- Previously I think there used to be a red box at the top of the board along the lines of READ THIS FIRST. It seems that more and more new posters aren't bothering with looking at the guidelines and posting vague requests in the wrong places. If you can work out how to do something like that, it might help. A bit.

2- Sometimes people describe a cover of a book and say it looks like the cover of another, specific book which is a good idea, but a lot of books have more than one cover. Could you suggest they post a picture of which cover they mean, using < img height=200 src="https:// xxxx.jpg" > ?

I think the point about long subject lines should be changed. Long subject lines are better than short ones because they give you a clearer idea of what the post is about without having to click and read the whole post, which is time-consuming. Also, if long lines are cut off, then what exactly is the maximum length? I think that should be specified. There are lots of posts with subject lines much longer than the examples. Those long lines make it easier to decide whether to read the whole post.
