Historical Scottish Romance

There is a book I am looking for but I don't remember much about it except for a specific scene.

I believe it was a historical Scottish romance. The laird's first wife killed herself by jumping off the window of their bedroom in from the husband.

The laird's new wife was cleaning their bedroom and realized that the windows were boarded and covered by wood. She wanted it removed but no one would help her so she did it herself. Her maid was so scared that she was doing something forbidden by her husband so she ran to tell the Laird.

When her husband entered the room, the wife was standing by the window enjoying the view, but all the husband saw was his ex-wife. He saw a replay of his wife jumping off the window. He yelled out to the new wife, scaring her. He pulled her away from the window in fear that she might jump.

I believe later in the story they realized that the Laird's cousin was not his aunt's son but was the Laird's father's illegitimate son. He killed the laird's first wife by manipulating her into believing that her husband was mean and a killer. I'm not sure if this was part of the story, but I'm almost positive it was.

I appreciate any help I can get! I feel like this book is in my kindle library but I can't find it.
