Arthur Fox, after an extensive chapter documenting Civil War era Pittsburgh and Allegheny City as they appeared in the 1860s, "follows to the front" over 60 Pennsylvania and one West Virginia regiment, consisting of companies recruited in Allegheny County. The following chapters are comprised of the three-month, nine-month, 100-day and three-year infantry, and cavalry regiments; the emergency militias, the Pa. 8th and 9th Reserves, and the heavy and light artillery batteries.
