St. Alphonsus Liguori (Italy, 1696-1787), bishop and Doctor of the church, is considered one of the great masters of the spiritual life. For him we are all called to salvation and can obtain eternal life; precisely this desire of him is embodied in this work THE LOVE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST: REDUCED TO PRACTICE: FROM THE WORDS OF ST. PAUL: CHARITY IS PATIENT, IT IS KIND, based on 1Cor. 13, 4, and develops this Pauline text on the qualities of true love. He explains the principal virtues that we ought to practice and the defects that we ought to avoid in order to render to our Lord love for love, and by doing so to attain eternal life. This book speaks to all hearts, because it reveals to every Christian soul what their true needs are and the true means to satisfy them. As the author says: "All sanctity and perfection consist in loving Jesus Christ, our God, our sovereign Good, and our Savior. Charity, says the apostle, (Coloss. 3, 14.) unites and preserves all the virtues which render a man perfect..." One cannot read this book without growing spiritually; nor can one grow tired in reading it again and again.
