As a young man during World War II, Karol Wojtyla and his associates formed the Rhapsodic Theatre in Krakow, Poland. They wrote and performed their plays underground as a protest against Nazi destruction of Polish culture. They defined their work as theater of the inner self.Written in 1944, Our God's Brother is a powerful example of such theater It portrays the explosive inner struggles of a famous artist/freedom fighter over how he can best serve Christ in the poor and homeless. Wojtyla, the young playwright, tells the interior story of Adam Chimielowski, the 19th Century Polish artist.
