3.5 stars. This book does come off as repetitive at times and I think it could have been better organized. If it was better organized I think it would have eliminated a lot of the repetition. However it was still an interesting read and I liked learning about mermaid myths from different countries and cultures and how they got started. This book also talks about some other sea creatures as well that are similar to mermaids such as sirens and nymphs. ( )

it definitely gets better in the 2nd half, as the 1st is rather repetitive. It's very gendered and I found the descriptions of things uncomfortable, especially when explaining why some mermaids are depicted with more than 1 tail. Otherwise it's an interesting read on some cultures view mermaids with good or somewhat motherly intent while other cultures view them as dangerous and having ill intent. ( )

This book is really pretty. I love the cover, love the illustrations and even love that all the font is a really pretty blue colour. What I don't like is how repetitive it is.

There is some interesting information and I really enjoyed reading it, but I'm assuming there wasn't enough information available for a whole book and so the author reiterates the same facts over and over. Which is fine for a high-school essay, it's not fine for a book. ( )

It’s pretty 🥴! Process: Notes organized by cultural origin and a separate set of material referenced (such as: poems, artwork, etc...) ( )
