"Four fabulous, smart, savvy French women offer up their highly amusing insider take on Parisian life, love, and liberty How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are brilliantly deconstructs the French woman's views on culture, fashion, and attitude. Unlike other books on French style, this one is full of wit and self-deprecating humor. The authors--Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline De Maigret, and Sophie Mas--who are all in their early to late thirties are unmarried though attached, most have children, and are highly accomplished. Bohemian freethinkers and iconoclasts, they are not afraid to cut through some of the myths. They say what you don't expect to hear, just the way you want to hear it. They are not against smoking in bed and are all for art, politics, and culture; making everything look easy; and going against the grain. Sports are something to talk about in bars, and maybe, yes, your mother did do a little something subtle to her face after all. In 288 pages, with 100 black-and-white and color pictures--many taken by the authors--How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are will explain those confusing subjects: clothes, makeup, men, culture, and lifestyle"-- "Four fabulous, smart, saavy French women offer up their highly amusing insider take on Parisian life, love, and liberty"--… (mehr)

Amusing and light with lots of moody pictures of the four authors looking ever so Parisian, but really lacking Paris, what's the point? ( )

As the title suggests this book very much plays to the stereotypes of Parisian women. ( )

It is a perfect gift for a girl friend. The book to keep on your night table. A book refusing to take itself too seriously, full of humor and irony, but also full of good practical advice in realms ranging from love, motherhood and cheating to make-up, cooking, partying, funny games to play with friends, films and books. It features some great pictures of the Ville Lumiere and its most famous female inhabitants, as well as suggestions about how to spend a Parisian day or weekend.

Its main point seems to be that life, yet much more complex than a set of cliches and success stories, must be embraced as it is and enjoyed, namely "au naturel."

Favourite page: The Ideal Man. It looks like I've gotten it right already.
Favourite chapter: Dare to love / A woman's real assets.
Favourite aphorism (p. 3): "Wear a black bra under your white blouse, like two notes on a sheet of music."

I thank you, Simona, for sending me such a great treat as a present. It makes it look really easy, and that makes me glad too. I'll keep it on the night table. ( )

The recipes were great, the fashion tips were cute, but the guidelines for cheating on your partner? Not gonna do it for me. I assume it was tongue in cheek, but that combined with countless casually sexist comments left a bad taste in my mouth. ( )

I enjoyed this book. A refreshing take written by French women, not by the casual observer of French women. Provides some different insight and points of view than the standard how-to-be-French books that are out there. ( )

Buchbeschreibung
