Teaches children (and adults) to be thankful, and find anything and everything to be thankful about because life is a gift ( )

This book has less of a plot and more of a general rhyming theme. There is much for this little boy to be thankful for. He strolls along through nature and thanks God for all the beautiful things he sees. He walks both at day and at night and sees a great many fantastic things.

I love this book because it is told from the point of view of a child. Children can relate to it because it is simple. It reminds me of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's "How Do I Love Thee?." There are a multitude of very different things that this little boy discovers. But each one has an appreciation and a thankful message given to God for creating such beautiful things for us to see and enjoy.

A class, after reading this, could take a nature walk. We could talk about the five senses (what we see on our walk, what we smell, etc.) Upon coming back to the classroom, we could write a poem about what we liked and thank God for it. We also could take watercolors and paint a picture of something we are thankful for.

This colorful illustrations and simple text make this story perfect for toddlers. Every facet of God's world provides a reason for a child to be thankful: from the glorious sunset to the beauty of the seashore, trees, and flowers.
