Very much enjoyed the audio performance by Rich Orlow. Not only was the story rich with adventure and suspense, it was weaved with interesting historical details and descriptions of what sounded like amazing places to visit. Davis Bunn is a favorite author of mine, and this book did nothing to disappoint. ( )

I had no idea what to expect from this book, having no previous experience with the author, Davis Bunn. Now, as a result of reading this story about three young people caught up in a plot involving the theft of antiquities in Greece, in particular, the island of Patmos, I'll be looking forward to reading more of Mr. Bunn's works. I liked the characters; I loved the setting, and the plot held enough intrigue and personal crisis to keep me thoroughly engrossed. Had the resolution to the story been more satisfying, I would have given The Patmos Deception a higher rating. ( )

If you are a fan of historical fiction, suspense, intrigue mixed with a historical mystery and faith then you must read The Patmos Deception by Davis Bunn. This is a fast paced and interesting read. It has just the right mix of suspense, history and mystery to keep you wanting more.

Nick, the journalist, with his friend Carey, the forensic archaeologist, find themselves in the middle of a mystery of who is stealing Grecian antiquities when they are asked to find out who is stealing these antiquities and recover them for Greece. Dimitri the charter boat captain and his first mate Sofia are caught in the middle of smuggling to try to stay afloat and are thrown into the middle of Nick and Carey's investigation. Will they find out who are the culprits and recover the antiquities without losing more than just the antiquities. With lives hanging in the balance they have to hurry to set it all straight.

This book in some ways reminds me of the old Indiana Jones movies. I enjoyed the book and characters. Archaeology is something that always piques my interest and Davis Bunn has brought archeology, church history and mystery together to form a must read book. If you are a church history buff, mystery junkie who loves archeology then get this book to read. The ending leaves you hanging and wanting more. I hope that there will be more books with Nick and Carey in new investigations.

Davis Bunn is a master in taking the reader to exotic locales and putting them right in the middle of intrigue, danger and romance. In his latest romantic suspense novel, The Patmos Deception, he introduces the reader to three great characters, a puzzling mystery surrounding ancient Christian artifacts and international political and economic conspiracies. His deft handling of the subject matter and the romantic possibilities of his characters are added bonuses. This book is a great choice for those who want a page-turning and plot-twisting read.

Forensic archeologist Carey Mathers is pursuing her dream job, but when she arrives in Greece it seems that her dreams have turned to nightmares. Out of a job, she is soon contacted by childhood friend and journalist Nick Hennessy who is on the trail of a BIG story. Nick makes Carey an offer she cannot refuse — assist him in investigating the thefts of religious artifacts. Their inquiries lead them across the Greek islands, to the Turkish coast and back again, centering on the legendary island of Patmos. They soon meet tourist boat captain Dimitri Rubinos, but can they trust him with their lives. And can Carey trust either man with her heart?

I loved the setting of The Patmos Deception. I knew next to nothing about Greece before reading this book. Bunn not only provides beautiful descriptions, but also insight into the political and economic struggles of the country. The characters are easy to like, and I never could decide which man I wanted Carey to end up with. The plot is fast-paced and keeps the reader on his toes. The action and the pages flew by. There are a couple of loose threads left to tie up and this bodes well for more adventures with Carey, Nick and Dimitri.

Recommended.

Audience: adults.
