Werk-DetailsDie Frau in Weiss von Wilkie Collins (1860)
I have been wanting to read this book for a long time, but due to its long length and tiny font (on my copy), I kept on putting it off. I finished this book last night. What a fantastic story! A well-spun mystery with complex characters and plot. If you enjoy reading books like Rebecca, Jane Eyre, or The Thirteenth Tale, then you will love this book. Dickens with more mystery & wit. Actually quite thrilling in some parts. One of the first mystery novels ever written. Highly recommended. In the 1800s, this was probably revolutionary. To a 21st century reader, the tropes are too familiar and the story isn't particularly engaging. There are other, better classics out there. So much has already been written about this classic of English literature, that I am unable to add anything new or original. All I will say is that this is one of the most gripping and absorbing 'mystery' stories you are ever likely go read; not for nothing has Collins been credited with inventing the modern detective story (or crime fiction, to give it its contemporary title). Set in 19th century London, Collins weaves a complex and intricate story that despite its age remains as fresh and gripping as ever. © Koplowitz 2009 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen Ist enthalten inFour Mysteries by Wilkie Collins (Armadale, The Moonstone, No Name, The Woman in White) von Wilkie Collins The Law and the Lady/The Moonstone/The Woman in White von Wilkie Collins Novels of Mystery from the Victorian Age von Maurice Richardson BeinhaltetWird wiedererzählt inHat die (nicht zu einer Serie gehörende) FortsetzungHat die Adaption
