We got my nephew three of these books a few years ago, but I'd not read them until recently. I believe the author said the people of Joplin inspired her to write this book. Of the three titles we got him, I wouldn't say this was my favorite (but it was also the third one of these in a row that I'd read so . . .) I could see how it would appeal to young male readers, which is what the author was trying to accomplish. I think we picked it because it was something that happened within my nephew's lifetime, even though we don't live close to Missouri. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

HTML: A destructive force is about to hit the city of Joplin...Eleven-year-old Dexter has always wanted to see a tornado. So when he gets the incredible opportunity to go storm chasing with the famous Dr. Norman Rays, he has to say yes! Dr. Rays is the host of Tornado Mysteries, the show that Dex and his older brother, Jeremy, watched every night until Jeremy joined the U.S. Navy SEALs and left Joplin. Dex certainly knows how deadly tornadoes can be, but this one isn't heading toward Joplin, and wouldn't it be great to have a brave and exciting story of his own to tell Jeremy when he comes home? But when the tornado shifts direction, Dexter's bravery is about to get seriously tested... .Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Dex is one lucky boy to have survived the tornado in this book. He was in a SUV with a storm chaser. They were literally in the eye of the storm. Dex came very close to be sucked out of the SUV. The storm chaser was. The SUV was caught on a chain linked fence so it didn’t end up being sucked up in the sky.
Tornado’s can be very scary and extremely unpredictable. I have seen first hand some of the destruction they can cause to towns/cities. When I was growing up there was one that had destroyed part of a nearby city. It was not what you’d think when you imagine it.
Dex and his family, including his pup had survived despite the destruction of the storm. They were all truly lucky. After all was said and done like after most horrible situations, the people of the town had to pick up the pieces. Clean up the wreckage and begin to rebuild their lives again.
This was a really well and informative read. I look forward to reading the next book in the series very soon. ( )
