Through her Nana's eyes a little girl realizes her true beauty. She doesn't need a mirror to show her what her Nana already knows. That she is beautiful! Such a wonderful story. It reminds me of the quote,"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." The illustrations are bright and have rounded shapes. ( )

I loved this book!!!!!! I will certaintly remember this book. There were no mirrors in her nana's house. The reason for this was to see the beauty in everything. She never knew anything was ever wrong with her because there were no mirrors to judge herself. Everything in the house was beauty to her. She only knew love she never knew hate. It is based off of a song. It is a great book and song. Her nana taught her to love everything and have no hate. Everything was beautiful. Her nana would say "the only beauty in everything is in her eyes" meaning everything you see is beautiful. ( )

This children's book while short and simple had a very deep meaning. No mirrors symbolized no stereotyping, no judging, and no inequality. I noticed while reading that within the illustrations, the characters in the book did not have any facial features. I believe this form of art brings a deeper meaning to the book and portrays the theme even more. I liked that the book was based off of a song and as a teacher would, more than likely, play the song for my students as well as reading the book. ( )

There were no mirrors in my Nana's house. No mirrors to reflect how dark my skin was, no mirrors to reflect how flat my nose was, no mirrors to show me that my clothes didn't fit so the beauty of everything was found in her eyes. Outside was a magical place where I only knew love and I never knew hate.

I loved the meaning behind this book, but it's really a pointless book. There's no story at all, but I really love the meaning behind it. The song that this book is based on is really good and catchy, but I don't think there was any point or reason to make it into a book. I love the illustrations though. I love that the people don't have faces in the illustrations and I feel like that pulls together the meaning in this book even more. Overall, if I were to read this book to my students, I would probably just play the song instead and show the book's illustrations while the song played. ( )

In my opinion, this children's book was very catchy. It was short and simple, but got it's point across. The book itself was actually made into a song this could be apart of the reason why. The protagonist of the story learned through her grandmother's eyes to enjoy life. I think if we see the beauty of our world through someone else's eyes we are able to appreciate it more. The child in the story said, "I only knew love and I never knew hate." She never saw the bad things or the things people judge others for. She wasn't aware of her skin color, the clothes she wore, or even her facial features. Illustrations in this book had no clear distinct lines, the characters themselves had no faces. I think this helped with the message. The message this story teaches children is to love one another. We should all be more loving of ourselves and our world. This is a great book to share with younger children especially when they start to notice differences amongst their peers. The book also provided room for deeper thinking. How would our society survive without mirrors? ( )
