Fictional in nature, but possible for kids to obtain. I love what the animals in this book teach the kiddos. It has a funny, contagious, book-loving vibe that can't be denied. The message that books are cool certainly comes across. I would use this book to inspire students to want to read. ( )

t started the summer of 2002, when the Springfield librarian, Molly McGrew, by mistake drove her bookmobile into the zoo. In this rollicking rhymed story, Molly introduces birds and beasts to this new something called reading. She finds the perfect book for every animal—tall books for giraffes, tiny ones for crickets. “She even found waterproof books for the otter, who never went swimming without Harry Potter.” In no time at all, Molly has them “forsaking their niches, their nests, and their nooks,” going “wild, simply wild, about wonderful books.”

A lively rhyming tale about a bookmobile that inspires zoo animals to love reading and writing. The poetic style is inspired by Dr. Seuss, though not full of nonsense words, and the art is fun. Nice allegory on how much of an impact libraries and literacy can have in a community! ( )
