Look out for the original series--starring Peyton List, Brent Rivera, Liana Liberato, Ajiona Alexus, and Dylan Sprayberry--now streaming on Hulu! Riverdale meets Final Destination in this fast-paced and deliciously creepy novel about an innocent game that turns deadly at a high school sleepover. It was supposed to be a game... Junior year is shaping up to be the best of McKenna Brady's life. After a transformative summer, McKenna is welcomed into the elite group of popular girls at Weeping Willow High, led by the gorgeous Olivia Richmond. For the first time in a long time, things are looking up. But everything changes the night of Olivia's Sweet Sixteen sleepover. Violet, the mysterious new girl in town, suggests the girls play a game during which Violet makes up elaborate, creepily specific stories about the violent ways the friends will die. Though it unsettles McKenna, it all seems harmless at the time. Until a week later, when Olivia dies...exactly as Violet predicted. As Violet rises to popularity and steps into the life Olivia left unfinished, McKenna becomes convinced Olivia's death wasn't just a coincidence, especially when a ghost haunting her bedroom keeps leaving clues that point to Violet. With the help of her cute neighbor, Trey, McKenna pledges to get to the bottom of Violet's secrets and true intentions before it's too late. Because it's only a matter of time before more lives are lost.… (mehr)

I read this online for free on the Riveted site. I also watched most of the TV show they made out of this one. The show has very little to do with the book, although this is part of a series and maybe they jumped ahead. But a lot of the major plot points were skipped over, characters were changed, etc. So it was like 2 different stories based on the same presence. I didn't like the show very much at all.

I found the writing to be ... not great. Kind of immature. Maybe that was the author's intent since it's first person and written by a junior in high school. But after reading Novik's Scholomance series, this just didn't ring true. It just felt like it was written by a newbie writer. And maybe the author is, although from her picture, she's not that young.

The beginning and the middle had more of a sense of dread and building doom, but the end seemed more like an action movie with a car chase. The ending was a cliffhanger. I'm sure this freebie was to get you to want to read the next book, but this one didn't impress me enough to want to do that.

It was a quick read and okay to get into a Halloween mood. I really didn't like that there wasn't even a little closure to this book. What they thought would end the serial killings didn't do a thing. And they were no closer to figuring out why the killings were happening. Once Evil Violet became most popular, why would she need to kill off other kids in the highschool? Had there been more clues to these things, then I might be interested in reading the next book. But I felt really cheated by the ending. ( )

I'm not sure how to rate this one so I won't.

I did really love the concept, especially since I played that game at a sleepover and we 100% lifted a girl into the air like that. FREAKY.

The story was a bit slow paced at times, but interesting enough that I binged it in one night and am now watching it on Hulu : )

A party game involving predictions for how people will die proves eerily accurate for a group of high school friends.

Light As A Feather’s main character, McKenna, lost weight and is suddenly considered beautiful and popular so she ditches her less beautiful less popular friends. McKenna’s “popular” priorities, looking down on old friends, it isn’t exactly endearing behavior and made it difficult to feel for/cheer for her. It’s challenging to form an attachment to a heroine who aside from the fact that she wouldn’t kill anyone, otherwise has values that aren’t far removed from the villain.

There was decent chemistry between McKenna and her love interest, however, it felt as though things came together for them romantically too quickly, too easily. I would have welcomed a few more ups and downs, will they, won’t they scenes in their relationship, the tension between them in the beginning dissipated all too soon.

As for the villain, I wish the motive had been juicier, more complicated, more emotionally driven than what seemed to be merely a desire to be most popular in school.

While I was curious enough to see this book through to the end, there was a shallowness to the characters and the story that never allowed me to feel all that engaged. ( )

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun and a really cool take on the "Light as a feather" game which I loved in The Craft. I think that the main character was really intriguing but I had a little trouble connecting to some of the other characters. Overall, I thought this was a fun and entertaining read. Catching up on the series on Hulu now and looking forward to the next book! :) ( )
