Fiction. Thriller. Law enforcement veteran Marc Cameron brings an explosive authenticity to this powerful new U.S. Marshal series. Arliss Cutter is a hero for our times. And his hunt for justice cuts straight to the bone. . . . U.S. Marshal Arliss Cutter is a born tracker. Raised in the swamplands of Florida, he honed his skills in the military, fought in the Middle East, and worked three field positions for Marshal Services. When it comes to tracking someone down-or taking someone out-Cutter's the best. But his newest assignment is taking him out of his comfort zone to southeast Alaska. Cold, dark, uninhabited forests that are often shrouded in fog. And it's the kind of case that makes his blood run cold . . . the shocking murder of a Tlingit Indian girl. Three people have disappeared on Prince of Wales Island. Two are crew members of the reality TV show, Fishwives. Cutter's job is to find the bodies, examine the crew's footage for clues, and track down the men who killed them. Easier said than done. Especially when the whole town is hiding secrets, every trail is a dead end-and the hunter becomes the hunted. . . .… (mehr)

This novel started out okay with the murder of a Tlingit girl, but quickly began pinging and ponging around with a whole lot of different characters, crimes, and intrigue. And although the initial murder is resolved at the very end, I had no idea who the murderer was until then—talk about a boatload of red herrings. I didn't much care for the main character, Arliss Cutter. He seemed a bit wooden. And be prepared to handcuff your disbelief to the radiator to swallow the Fishwives story and Mexican drug thugs wreaking havoc in Alaska for some reason. ( )

This is what I used to refer to as an airplane book.
Good action, likable characters, but not a lot of deep concentration is required
Think Clive Cussler type books.
It would also be an enjoyable beach book. ( )

An adrenaline-laced thriller that follows U.S. Marshal Arliss Cutter as he investigates several brutal murders in southeast Alaska's rugged wilderness. Cutter weaves through treacherous terrain and the complex web of suspects, before uncovering a sinister conspiracy that puts Alaska in danger. A gripping page-turner that's just plain fun to read! I enjoyed the book because it was action packed and a cop drama. However, the narrator(s) voice reminded me so much of Joe Pickett (author CJ Box) that I became distracted by it, associating the Box characters with the Cameron ones. I also admit that I looked for the connection between the title and the context in the book. I did not find it. The Alaska action was intriguing and I followed it intensely. Book #2 soon! ( )

This novel is my first reading of Marc Camron and I really enjoyed his storytelling and the slow process of bringing several storylines together toward the end. Definitely planning to read the next Arliss Cutter book. ( )
