I listened to it in one sitting because I was so engrossed in the book. It brings up points that need to be discussed. What does make up a jury of peers, is one. Mental health and alcoholism are others. It is a sad tale though interesting. I don’t always enjoy narrators who are the author. In this audio selection, I did. Perhaps be the story is a true one and the narration respected that. In my opinion it was well done. I’m happy I listened to it. In the words of the author, "I fucking learned a shit ton." I loved this story. There's no real hard evidence and it's not your typical true crime. This audible explores Alaskan native life and what eventually leads to a crime happening by one of their own. Very interesting. I would recommend it to both true crime and history fans. Well, and just about everyone. "Native Alaskan True Crime". I personally didn't find it enjoyable at all, but for people who are interested in either of these things, it was at least reasonably interesting. I didn't really like the presentation (felt like a podcast, not really an audiobook). Honestly I only read this because it was 1) free 2) short so I could get to my 192 books for 2020. I'd never have read it otherwise, but sometimes these turn out to be good, so I was willing to take the risk. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe--Iñukuns--that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events. The story of Smith's tragic downfall has long haunted James Dommek, Jr., the great-grandson of the last of the Iñupiaq story-tellers. Midnight Son is his journey in discovering who Teddy Kyle Smith was, what he did, and what he really saw. Along the way, listeners will experience the soul of the real Alaska as narrator Dommek, Jr. brings this multilayered and sprawling tale to life. Please Note: Midnight Son contains adult language and violent themes. Discretion is advised. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

James Dommek, Jr. becomes fascinated by Teddy Kyle Smith. He interviews friends, acquaintances, and Teddy’s brother for this short Audible Original. This story surprised me with its many layers. James seems interested to learn about Teddy, the crimes he was accused, and the legend of the mythic Inukuns. The story opens with the interviews James conducted with people who know Teddy and the victims of his crimes. Next, he covers the trial. James played Teddy’s testimony regarding what he saw of the Inukuns. He explained how the courts responded to the testimony. He also shared...
