Based on Webster's New International Dictionary

One of my favourite hard copy dictionaries. The other two I like are the Oxford, and a Webster's children's dictionary from the 80s. ( )

A Dictionary of the English Language, now printed as "an entirely new book" in the New Collegiate series sprung from the unabridged century-old Merriam-Webster. This is the gilt-edged scallop-cut "thin paper" 6th edition and is based on the 2d edition of the unabridged.

Appendices include abbreviations, symbols, 5000 biographical names, a pronouncing gazetteer of 7000 places, an orthography section, list of rhymes, symbols, and list of colleges and universities in US and Canada.

There's something about an older dictionary... It has more archaic words... It has, perhaps, more personality... It enables you to better understand a previous generation... I swiped this from my parents and bought them a new, up-to-date one. They have no complaints and neither do I. ( )
