I have to admit that I enjoyed this book more than I did the previous book. That being said, I didn't finish it. I read nearly 50% before I set it aside. I guess I'm just not a fan of Holly Banks. The relationships around her didn't feel real and genuine, the characters didn't seem deep or enjoyable. I always give authors a second chance as I've found some truly good books I would have missed, but this just isn't that case. Thank you for allowing me to read and give my honest opinion. A cute follow-up to 2019’s Holly Banks Full of Angst, The Peculiar Fate of Holly Banks follows the same formula as the first. Holly, newly moved to the Village of Primm, has lofty goals to have and do it all in what is supposed to be suburban utopia. In her efforts to be the best wife, the best mother, and the best neighbor, crazy hijinks of course ensue. And through it all, Holly fails miserably, and once again learns that having and doing it all isn’t as important as family and friends. The perfect light read when you need a lift of spirits, or a great gift for that friend or sister who needs a loving reminder that being overwhelmed in life is normal and that’s perfectly okay. I’ve just finished this book ‘The Peculiar Fate or Holly Banks’ by Julie Valerie and am contemplating what a very apt title it is. Set in America, the story tells of the first few months of Holly and her family’s life in a new house on an ‘upwardly mobile’ estate. A tale of aspirations to better oneself, sometimes thrown by the desire to the same as your counterparts, it’s a spritely fast moving lesson in success (and failure). As a british native I don’t always find American text as easy to read as I would like but this was engaging and intriguing as well as entertaining and kept me reading to the end. Sprinkled with familiar cosy subject matters such as dogs, children, annoying and crazy neighbours, which sit neatly alongside more bizarre content such as flying machines and kindergarten weddings, it’s a heart warming tale, that gently nudges your faith in fate. Persevere through the America references and you’ll be rewarded for completing this reassuring tale. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

"Holly Banks is on a desperate mission to have it all, but nothing in life goes according to plan. She's quickly learning that keeping up with the Joneses is a full-time job, especially when the women of Primm, her new neighborhood, seem to have it together all the time. With her husband's job in flux, her daughter's difficulty with learning to read, and her mother's new zest for dating, Holly's life is already anything but picture perfect. Then her dog digs up an old artifact in the village center, and the mishap draws the attention of local media. Because of course it would. Holly finds herself at the center of a mystery between two rival towns that, if solved, could change the Village of Primm forever. Attention is the last thing she needs as she's launching a new business, the village-wide "Parade of Homes" is approaching--though she's hardly unpacked - and she needs to submit her entry for an upcoming film festival. Can Holly still create her perfect (looking) life? Or is fate about to go off script and give her a story she never could have imagined?"--Publisher. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
