I am still trying to wrap my head around everything that occurs in this book and I’m still in shock and awe. This author has a way of creating characters that you can’t but fall helplessly in love with and storylines that absolutely leave you breathless. In this book we are introduced to Puck Kelley aka Punky who is absolutely flawed from the demons that haunt him from years ago. He endures things no child should have to and sees things that have left him searching for answers. This twisted tale of two feuding families, lies, secrets, and betrayal will keep you on the edge the entire time while also falling oh so hard for that bad boy Puck. Not going to lie but I also have a crush on his boys Cian and Rory. When things seem to be falling apart and plans seem to be coming together Puck meets his “Babydoll” She’s a mystery, she’s gorgeous, but most importantly she sees Punky for the real mask he wears and not the façade he gives the rest of the world. With so many twists, turns, and unexpected things I never saw all the things coming or what would happen next. My heart hurt for everyone but most of all towards the end Punky felt he deserved all he had to endure and it was sad because he does deserve to be loved and loved hard. This is book one but book two isn’t far away and I am anticipating it so much because there is so much more left to be discovered and done. Another amazing read that has created a fantastic, twisted story that devours us, breaks our hearts, and leaves us breathless. ( ) Sighs. This month has been a struggle reading wise and I am almost afraid to say it’s a reading slump (because I already know it is). I haven’t really been drawn to anything as of late and have dropped books left to right, including this one. MJ is known to bring the dark, gritty romances I love and adore to life and despite the twists and turns, I just couldn’t get into this. The novel started off strong—the prologue featured background details of Punky’s mother's gruesome death and what led him to become the man he is today intrigue me but as the story progressed and when the readers were also introduced to ‘Babydoll’, I lost all interest and became bored with what I was reading. It has nothing to do with MJ style. I love it, I truly do. It has more to do with me and as of right now, I will be putting this aside to pick back up in the near future when my reading slump isn’t affecting my overall reading experience. Good lord. This author knows how to write mafia and suspense. It was refreshing to see the Irish in charge for once. Don't get me wrong, I love all Mafia but this was a palette cleanser that was for sure. The author did an amazing job bringing the Irish vernacular and slang to the story. I had to slow my reading down in order to make sure I was understanding everything that was being said and that was happening. This is a dark story for a lot of reasons. However, the mystery of the story and trying to solve what happened in the prologue made it all make sense. It started dark and there was no place left for it to go. Even though the violence was gory at times, the story evolved from just a normal mafia story to one that was extreme mafia if that makes sense. I enjoyed the fact that the author put in a twist with "Babydoll'" and not knowing what her role was in the story. Well done on another big twist with her and Punky too. I didn't see that coming. I was trying to figure out how the author intended to handle that situation when it all made sense with that whopper of a cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next part of this story. Off-topic, can I just talk about this cover?!?! Sweet Holiest of titfires. SOOOOOO gorgeous and unique. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Monsters are real. When I was five years old, I watched my mother take her last breath-a breath three monsters stole from her. I never chose this life. My father says it's my birthright, but all I see is a curse. It's because of the Kelly name my mum was slain by the Doyles-our enemies in Dublin, the fellas livin' on borrowed time. All of Belfast fears my family, especially me. I'm Puck Kelly, otherwise known as Punky; the lad ye don't want to double cross. I don't do feelings or emotions. I never have . . . until she walks into my world. Babydoll is a liar and a thief, but I can't stay away. We both thrive in the darkness because that's where our demons can play. No word af a lie, sixteen years later, those monsters still haunt my dreams. But every monster is scared of somethin' . . . and that somethin' is me. No more hiding in the shadows because I'm huntin' youse. Run, wee monsters, run. Contains mature themes. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
