However, unlike the other books this one ends on a nice break.
This book follows along after the first in this duet "The Imp and the Beast" where we are now continuing the story of Pip and Adam. The first book took place in both "current times" and the past which was 1600's England. It was told in first person POV - Pip. It ended when Adam's character in the story of how they met was introduced.
This part of the series is told almost entirely in Adam's POV taking place in the past. With the exception of the first introductory chapter where we learn that Adam hasn't really left Pip alone, but is hiding away to help teach her the lesson of the "Boy who cried wolf". In the last book Pip make a joke that went too far and in doing so Adam almost lost control of the Beast he holds in himself. So that she knows that this is never to happen again, that the joke she played will never be repeated he took himself away from her to teach her the lesson. In fact, he spent the day lurking around doors and hiding out within sight of her.
This book then follows Adam's thoughts and memories of the time he met and fell in love with Pip. The time was 1600's London and it spans from the moment Pip hears his voice to the point where his life is forever changed and he is about to embark on his new life with Pip and all that comes with it.
I really enjoyed hearing Adam's point of view since he is one of the least talkative characters in the series. He is the opposite of boisterous and fun-loving Pip in his quite yet supportive ways. Many would make the mistake of putting him down as a beta male, but in fact he is just easy going - until he isn't. Adam did start off as a bit of a Beta but in the end, he comes out as all Alpha. He is the perfect man for Pip.
