I don’t think this really captured the magic of the first book. There were definitely parts that were good, but the overall message felt weird and half heartedly delivered, and the end felt rushed.

Cute and worth reading, but not as great as the first book. ( )

Dany is still having a bit of trouble fitting in at school, so she uses her magic notebook to make a clone of herself -- but upgraded to make it easier for her to be friends with the cool kids. When her clone accidentally knocks over a jar with a blue dog in it, all pandemonium breaks loose!

Whereas I found the first book in this series to be quirky and hilarious, this book was a little more bizarre and goofy. That being said, I think the target audience of middle schoolers would enjoy it a lot more than I did. This book does pick up right where the last one left off and makes numerous references to the events in that title, so it definitely makes sense to read them in order.

The illustrations were chockful of little puns and pop culture references, so that was fun. Nevertheless, I didn't find this book quite as charming as the original and probably won't pick up another title if the series continues. ( )

A great sequel to Making Friends - Back to the Drawing Board picks up pretty soon after the events of the first comic (so don't go trying to read these out of order!) As with the first book, this one tackles the intricacies of friendship and how they can change as you grow and as your friends make new friends. It also brings up bullying and self-esteem. I love the characters and how bittersweet this book felt. Plus, there's still plenty of magic and silliness! I can't wait for more of this series. ( )
