Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match was a book I found on clearance at Homesense & Marshalls. I adore that store because they get random books I've never heard of but look and read to be SO GOOD. The cover and title alone was intriguing, but then reading the synopsis sealed the deal. I needed to read this book.

This is an intertext of the famous Frankenstein book with a really interesting twist. Angelika is a member of the Frankenstein family. All of them have found true love and their soulmate which makes their life perfect. Angelika hasn't been too lucky with her suitors. She has a very scientific approach to match making which seems to scare all of those men off. Lucky for her, Victor, her brother, and Angelika are working on a very special project.... re-animating a man after sewing pieces together from different men.

The project works and an incredible handsome man comes back to life on the lab table. Angelika hopes this is her true love, but things start to spiral out of control which may affect her suitor's availability. He wants to find out who he was before he woke up as Frankenstein's monster. Ups and downs, bumps, hills and valleys, this story is going to give you a pinch of mystery, a dash of science, and a potential for romance.

I'm not gonna lie, this was one of the weirdest takes on this story but it works! It's a genuinely fun retelling that puts enough of a spin on it that it doesn't feel like the book is rehashing the same old Frankenstein story. There's so many additions to this tale that will even have you forgetting it's based on Frankenstein at all by the end of it. It has a Tim Burton or The Addams Family like vibe, a sitcom like feel, and it just a great read if you want to slink away into another world. It's so wild, so absurd, so odd... it's fantastic!

I highly recommend this New Adult book if you love romance, intertexts, or creative spins on classic tales. The book definitely has some quirks and I can see people not enjoying it since it's a romance focusing on romancing a dead body, but hey. Books can be weird. Just maybe don't take it too seriously?

I kept seeing divided opinions on this book. So, I went into reading this expecting to dislike it, but instead came away oddly touched. I mean what wouldn’t you do to keep someone you love with you? I really enjoyed this book. Yeah, some parts are strange and disturbing but I think it just goes with the territory of writing an alternate version of Frankenstein. Angelika is someone who is not at all perfect and we see her flaws from the start, but I think at the heart of it she is kind. She learns from her mistakes. We see her character growth and how Will really changes everyone around him for the better. Sally Thorne novels always have such witty and heartfelt writing. I wasn't expecting to cry with this book but I did. Victor as the teasing, vain, but loveable brother was also just really fun to read. It was sweet to see what he would do for his sister. This had unexpected humor and whimsical parts and overall, I thought it a perfect balance. ( )

Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match is a Frankenstein-inspired story not a retelling - with wonderful nods to the original Frankenstein.

We follow Victor Frankenstein's self-centered, spoiled sister, Angelika, who spends tons of money and has no concern for anyone else. Every Frankenstein for generations has found their true love and wedded bliss even her absurd brother has met his match and is betrothed to his dramatic play-write Lizzy. Angelika has run out of eligible suitors and decides she must create her own. Thus begins this unconventional, off-center, strange, outlandish historical paranormal romance.

If you can suspend disbelief, accept some bawdiness, and not worry about absolutely every bit of plot then this quirky read this could possibly be the book for you.

I cannot wait for the next installment of the series.

A little bit disturbing, a little bit erotic, overall quick read. Angelika Frankenstein assists her brother in experimenting on corpses. In support of her brother's experiments, she chooses the best parts of the corpses in the morgue, assembles them together and creates her one true love who awakens with no memory of who he was. Needless to say, he wants to find out. Easy to read, but really sort of twisted. ( )
