This book started out so strong but became less and less appealing the more I read on. On one hand, this was a super quick and easy read which I knocked out in a couple of days, on the other hand I was left feeling somewhat confused after finishing the book. The story had a lot of potential but the characters and the pacing left quite a bit to be desired. It seemed that a dramatic event was happening out of the blue far too often and they were rarely ever fully fleshed out. Despite my criticisms I did really enjoy reading this book, I just wish that more time was spent delving into the characters and details of the events of the story. Sometimes it felt like I was simply being told what happened rather than really being drawn into the story and being shown what happened (if that makes any sense haha). I think this series definitely has potential! The Last Dragon King is a thrilling and captivating fantasy novel that takes readers on a magical adventure. Leia Stone creates a richly detailed world filled with mythical creatures, ancient prophecies, and breathtaking landscapes. The story effortlessly blends elements of fantasy, romance, and action, making it an enjoyable read for fans of the genre. One of the book's strengths lies in its protagonist, Esha. She is a strong and determined character, driven by her desire to restore her kingdom and protect her people. Her growth throughout the story is very well developed. The pacing of the book is well-balanced, with a mix of intense action sequences and quieter, character-driven moments. The author's vivid descriptions bring the world of dragons to life, immersing the reader in a realm of magic and wonder. Additionally, the dialogue is engaging and realistic, adding depth to the interactions between the characters. Leia Stone's writing style is accessible and fluid, making the book an easy page-turner. The plot unfolds at a steady pace, keeping readers engaged and eager to discover what happens next. The author's attention to detail and world-building skills shine through, creating a captivating backdrop for the story. However, one minor drawback of the book is that certain plot points and character arcs feel somewhat predictable and familiar. While the story is enjoyable, it may not offer many surprises for seasoned fantasy readers. Nonetheless, the well-executed writing and engaging characters make up for this minor drawback. This one was a lot more drama-filled than the second so I did not enjoy it as much but it did provide extra context to the story that was important.
