I was in the mood for an audiobook that would be (1) really easy to get drawn into, and (2) had a simple enough structure that I could listen in short stints without too much back-tracking required. And, Lynette Eason’s latest romantic suspense novel Double Take, delivered on both of those scores.

Lainie and James are both really down-to-earth characters with, quite refreshingly, nothing but good intentions. Each though, are scarred by traumatic experiences in their past, and so have a fair amount of emotional baggage to work through in parallel with trying to stay alive.

While the mystery underpinning Double Take kept me guessing, the chronological narrative is easy to follow and swiftly paced. Eason fills any down-time between thrilling action sequences with either cat-and-mouse psychological suspense or romantic tension between her lead characters. Lainie Jackson is the target of her ex-fiancé, Adam. Her instincts about him proved trustworthy. But it’s not possible that he could be after her since Lainie was forced to take Adam’s life in an act of self defense eighteen months earlier. Although her gut feeling is that it’s someone who strongly resembles Adam, she’s beginning to question whether he’s really deceased. She keeps insisting to herself and others that he is, but his family strongly believes otherwise. Meanwhile, Lainie’s childhood crush, Detective James Cross, is trying to protect her while keeping his feelings for her in check. James and Lainie have a connection; both having parents with issues that they can freely talk to each other about. But can James keep Lainie safe? Or will her pursuer succeed in destroying any chance they have of a future together?
Lynette Eason knows how to write romantic suspense. I was kept on edge guessing about the identity of Lainie’s stalker. Was Adam alive, or was someone impersonating him? I never did figure it out on my own. I like how the author made everything make sense in the end. Every character had a part to play, and when each part came together the puzzle was solved—and it was cleverly constructed. I was impressed by the outcome.
Additionally, I was interested in the progression of James and Lainie’s involvement. I like that the romantic element was a subtle part of the story; it wasn’t sappy and didn’t in any way overshadow the mystery.
Overall, this book was what I’ve come to expect from Lynette Eason. It kept me entertained, and the twists caught me off guard and added the element of surprise that made Double Take a winner. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I had the privilege of both listening to and reading Double Take by Lynette Eason, thanks to the complimentary download received by Tantor Audio, and a physical book provided by the Revell Reads program. I wish to thank both sources for the free copies. ( )

With plenty of action to keep me reading late into the night, this novel starts with a bang and doesn’t let up the entire time. There were plenty of plot twists to keep me guessing as I tried to figure out the villain with Lainie and James. I was pleased to read that Lainie is a physician assistant (as I am one too!) and I liked her immediately. James, too, was a great partner and romantic interest, especially with his protective nature of Lainie. Their relationship developed naturally and I liked how they both had to work through trauma from their pasts in order to move forward. This series has started out so well, I cannot wait to read the rest! Highly recommended!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. ( )

Do you ever read a romantic suspense novel and think you’ve figured out who the culprit is, but you have to keep reading to be sure you’re right? That’s exactly what happened with me and Double Take by Lynette Eason. This is the first book in a new series, so readers are in store for new characters, new setting, and new drama.

Lainie is in no way a damsel in distress. She’s strong and smart and driven, and not afraid to stand up for others. She had to learn the hard way what keeping silent does. When her best friend’s brother shows up at the hospital where Lainie works as a PA.

The two are thrown together as they try to figure out who is after Lainie. Is it her ex seeking revenge or someone else trying to make her think her ex is alive?

While I wouldn’t say this book left me breathless, it did have me questioning whether my hunch was right or not on more than one occasion. An entertaining read that kept me on my toes.

Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own. ( )

Double Take by Lynette Eason is the first book in her Lake City Heroes series. Lainie Jackson’s ex tried to murder her! Now, someone is trying to finish the job. This book was so intense! I was so tempted to just flip to the end to find out how it ended, just so I could get some relief from the stress and suspense! But, I didn’t. This story will take you on a nail-biting roller coaster ride!

I received this book from the author for my honest review. ( )
