Slimani shows history's effects on an extended family in post WWII through the 60s in Morocco, particularly the women. I enjoyed the variety of the characters and the settings. I found the end ambiguous and unresolved. This is the second book in a proposed trilogy so perhaps that is why. ( )

I loved the first book in this trilogy. But my time was somewhat busy so I didn’t get to breeze thru and enjoy this book in the same way. But. I still really liked it. The book continues focusing on the lives of the children of Mathilda and Amine and focusing on the turmoil of Morocco. ( )

The second volume of a proposed trilogy, which I read immediately after volume 1.
I enjoyed the first volume, and enjoyed this one even more. I think the author is growing as she writes.
The life of the family, and the life of Morocco, warts and all, continue to engage the reader.
This is fine historical fiction, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the publication of the promised third volume. ( )

J'ai adoré ce deuxième tome autant que le premier et j'espère qu'il y en aura un troisième. Slimani a un vrai talent pour la description avec une économie de mots, chacun est pesé pour créer une riche fresque de paysages, de personnages, d'émotions et de situations. La famille Behlaj est campé dans un monde politique, historique et sociologique que le lecteur peut sentir, écouter, voir et toucher. À travers ses yeux, le lecteur est complètement dépaysé, projeté dans un autre lieu, dans un autre temps. Je pourrai y passer encore des heures sans me lasser. ( )
