The Moon book covers a lot of areas related to the moon--legends, phases, tidal effect, eclipses, lunar geography, and exploration.--in brief, but simply and clearly. A great introduction to lunar study. Backmatter has even more: milestones, legends, and facts. ( ) This book tells all about the moon and how the moon affects the oceans' tides, why the same side of the moon always faces earth, why we have eclipses, and more. It does a decent job of not being too wordy while still carrying a lot of information. It is also important to read the updated version of this book because the original version talks about people's religions/beliefs about the moon as though they are fake and funny stories. I would use this book when learning about our solar system or constellations even. Used in preschool classroom studying outer space. Contains lots of key vocabulary (star, planet, satellite, orbit, astronomers), the phases of the moon (new, crescent, first quarter, gibbous, full, etc), mythology about the moon (Greek, Roman, American Indian), information about solar eclipses (and how to make a sun projector) and lunar eclipses, the moon's effect on tides, a description of the close-up view of the moon that can be obtained via binoculars or telescope, and the history of lunar missions (Apollo 11-Apollo 17). Back matter includes "Moon Milestones," "Moon Legends and Stories," and "More Moon Facts." In this updated version of The Moon, Gail Gibbons does a great job describing the different phases of the moon as well as how this effects our ocean tides. There are updates as well with this release which is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the landing on the moon. The information has been updated to reflect current events as well as a map of the moon’s surface. I would recommend this for any collection. It is a great introduction for young readers with fun facts about the moon. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
