KEY BENEFIT: In ten straightforward chapters, this text takes its readers from learning the reasons behind developing a professional portfolio all the way through completion of a final product by seamlessly presenting for its readers for the step-by-step process of developing, self-evaluating, and presenting a professional early childhood education portfolio. KEY TOPICS:  In greater detail, every chapter has a definitive goal and will guide the reader that much closer to the end goal-that of a portfolio ready to present in interviews and utilize in the working classroom.  The first chapter explains the rationale for using a professional portfolio in early childhood education, the parts and phases of the portfolio process. The standards used by early childhood educators to structure a portfolio that illustrate competencies of beginning teachers in our field are addressed in Chapter 2.  The benefits and challenges of electronic portfolios and the skills needed to execute a successful e-portfolio are the focus of Chapter 3.A guide for setting up the portfolio is address in Chapter 4, and how to write a strong "Philosophy of Education" statement is the goal of Chapter 5. The explanation of artifacts and how they are used to show knowledge of the field are the benefits of Chapter 6, including great ideas for finding and choosing appropriate artifacts that support learning.  Chapter 7 addresses the important task of writing effective reflective narratives. Chapter 8 provides suggestions for collecting, cataloging, and storing evidence for use in Showcase or Interview portfolios. Chapter 9 will help readers to organize their final Showcase Portfolio and prepare for their summative assessment, the portfolio presentation. Finally, Chapter 10 looks at how the development of a professional portfolio has prepared the reader to enter the work force as a professional, and how it may continue to remain a valuable tool throughout their professional career. MARKET: Written for pre-service teachers in early childhood education programs to assist them in developing a successful professional portfolio.… (mehr)
