The brief format made it easy to contrast the different subjects, which was interesting. ( ) “A Third Testament” is the highly praised television documentary presented by noted author and Christian apologist, Malcolm Muggeridge (1903-1990), originally aired in 1974. This revealing documentary profiles six famous and unique men whose search for God forms a kind of modern testament to the reality of Christ. Muggeridge is a journalist who came late in life to be baptized as a Catholic. In 1976 he hosted a TV program on the BBC about spiritual journeys of famous Christians. He includes Saint Augustine, Blaise Pascal, William Blake, Soren Kierkegarde, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The common theme in the selection of these individuals is uncertain to me. All were writers, and several were mystics, but only one might be considered a martyr. The idea expressed is that these persons were witnesses to their god, and alive in times of turmoil, "god's spies" as the author put it. The characters are interesting in themselves but very different, although all were probably somewhat challenging dinner companions. The author was in his 70's and near his late life conversion. He alludes darkly to the rot and failures of life in modern times on many occasions, and the lack of meaning in life, but he does not explain what he meant. He is probably another of those people who doesn't understand science and therefore has problems with understanding the modern world. Zeige 4 von 4 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
