Family Album is the dramatic and emotional rollercoaster story of a Hollywood family. The first half is slightly dull as the whirlwind romance between glamourous movie star Faye Price and wealthy playboy Ward Thayer meet, fall in love, and have five children. They live a life of extravagant indulgence, never worrying about the next day—until the money runs out. The book's second half is filled with so much strife and drama it made my head spin and tears flow. Well-written and sometimes blushingly direct, the author drags her characters and readers through hell and back. This book was so entertaining I couldn't put it down. A competent work, if melancholy. It's not one of those perky chick lit books; it's one of those things where the girl clings to an unusual career to try to compensate for an inadequate husband. ................................... I'm too lenient with my reviews. This one was mediocre. There. I said it. (7/10) Zeige 5 von 5 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Through forty years—from Hollywood's golden days in World War II to the present—Faye Price would create first a career as a legendary actress, then a family, and finally she would realize her dream of becoming one of Hollywood's first woman directors. But nothing was more precious to Faye than her five children. In a changing world, a milieu where family values are constantly challenged from without and within, the Thayers would face the greatest challenges and harshest test a family can endure, to emerge stronger, bound forever by loyalty and love. It is only when Faye is gone that they can each assess how far they have come, and how important their family album is. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Family Album was one of the best Danielle Steel books that she ever wrote, followed by Message From Nam. This one is a historical saga that covers the price family, in particular Faye Price, who becomes a very famous Hollywood director at a time when women didn't do that. It all comes at a cost - her husband's Hollywood career goes bust. Her kids virtually grow up without her, experimenting with drugs, sex, sexuality, and even death. Beginning to end it tells of the sacrifices, hardships, and other things Faye Price gave up to become who she was by the time she died. This is essentially a love letter from her husband to her is how I read it.
Jaclyn Smith did a hell of a job playing Faye in the miniseries, which was the best adaptation of a Steel novel to date. ( )
