Summary:
At the start of his day, Johnathon learns that his daddy is "going away". It takes a while for this to understand that his parents are getting divorced. He starts blaming himself and feeling really sad about the situation. His parents comfort him by letting him know that they both will always love him.

Personal Reaction:
This book is absolutely heartbreaking and really gives you an understanding of the way children feel when stuck in the middle of a divorce. This is very real to some of the children in your classroom. This is not a book I would read out loud but I would send it home privately with a child to read with their parents.

Classroom Extension:
1. I would send this home with a family to read and discuss together rather than in the classroom.

2. With the parents permission, I would give this book to a student to read and suggest maybe writing in a journal or writing a letter to their parents to explain their thoughts and feelings of the situation they are facing. ( )

Summary: A little boy’s mother and father are getting divorced. The parents are reassuring the boy that the divorce had nothing to do with him. They also explain to him how much they care about him and how they will always be there for him.

Personal Reaction: It brought back memories of the way I felt when my mother and father got a divorce. It is a powerful story showing even if parents get divorced they will always love and care about their child.

Classroom Extension:
1.Encourage a family to read the book together if the parents are getting a divorce.
2.After a family reads it, you can explain to the child that divorce is common and he is not the only one who feels that way. ( )

Summary: It is about understanding divorce for young children. It is about a young boy whose parents sit him down to have a conversation about them divorcing. It shows the boys emotions and explains the kinds of questions he has. It explains divorce in simple terms.

Personal Reaction: This is a good book for families going through divorce.

Classroom Extension: I would let families going through divorce use this book to help their children. They could use this book to show the children that it is not their fault.

This is a book about a boy whose parent are getting a divorce. The parents explain the situation to him and let him know that they will always be there from him. This book also talks about how he feels about this hard time in his life.

This book captures a realistic portrayal of hos this situation could happen. I like that it shows the confusion, sadness, and anger that the young boy is feeling. The parents handle the situation is a calm and effective manner.

1)The teacher could give the book to a student to take home if he/she is going through this situations. It guides parents on how to handle explain their divorce to their child.
2) This book could be used to show the children that sometimes there are adult problems that occur but it is never their fault.

Summary:
This book is about a family going through a hard time, it is about two parents trying to inform and explain to their son that they are getting a divorce. He takes this news and starts to think and wonder about what they just told him and he begins to blame himself. He asks is it something he said or did. The parents inform him it is not his fault, and that they both still love him very much and that the divorce won’t change their love for him.
Personal Reaction:
I don’t believe this book should be read to a classroom of students if you are going to have this book as a teacher use it in the proper way. It is more of a book for children and parents that are dealing with this experience and can be used in a helpful way with that family at home.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
Possibly turn this into a lesson about how students have dealt with struggles and that they are still loved and that it will all be ok turn it into a positive lesson if read in the classroom ( )
