Highlights some pithy quotes from same at the end. Was hoping for more info on who wrote which of the 85 or so papers. John Jay only wrote five, Madison wrote 26, Hamilton wrote 51, and three were written by Madison and Hamilton jointly. According to Ron Chernow's biography of Hamilton, the joint effort to produce these daily contributions to a New York newspaper was of exhausting and monumental proportions. Hamilton coordinated the whole enterprise, and each was published, in accordance with custom at the time, under a pseudonym -- a joint one in this case -- Publius. In my humble opinion, reading these papers to "refresh" our understanding of what the Founding Fathers intended by framing the U.S. Constitution is very important for voters everywhere. "The Federalist not only illuminates the meaning of the Constitution's text. It also explains how our Constitution embodies the core principles of the Declaration of Independence and why it must be preserved in the face of present struggles. In this monograph, Anthony Peacock, professor of political science at Utah State University, offers us a brief guide to The Federalist, a road map illuminating the major issues treated in the essays and explaining their continued relevance for us today. An appendix of important passages on contemporary subjects is also included as a helpful resource for interested readers."--P. [4] of cover. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
