For me, this book was required reading for an anthropology class. As such, I started the book with a bias against it. However, if I had never been forced to read it, I can safely say that I would never have read it. This book is overwhelmingly forgettable. Described as an "ethnography" the point of the book is supposed to be all about the culture of a group of Yucatecan immigrants living in Dallas. However, the author fails to really delve into the heart of the culture, and spends most of the book just comparing obvious aspects to modern American culture. Unless you are just dying to read a book about Yucatecans living in Dallas, I would recommend passing this book by.… (mehr)
