Über den Autor

Ellis Amburn was born in Texas on August 2, 1933. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 1954. He worked as a reporter-researcher at Newsweek before becoming a book editor at Putnam, where he edited John le Carré and Jack Kerouac. Amburn was also an editor-in-chief at Delacorte and mehr anzeigen William Morrow. He worked as a ghostwriter with Priscilla Presley, Shelley Winters, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Sammy Davis, Jr. He wrote several biographies including Buddy Holly: A Biography, Dark Star: The Roy Orbison Story, The Sexiest Man Alive: A Biography of Warren Beatty, Subterranean Kerouac, and Pearl: The Obsessions and Passions of Janis Joplin. Uneven bio of Olivia deHavilland that contains some errors. For example on page 91 Yakima Canutt did not save Scarlett from the rapist on the bridge - he was the rapist. It was "Big Sam" who saved Scarlett. And on page 303 the author said that John Huston was 98 when he passed away when he was actually 81. The interviews with Olivia and others were well done and did provide information that was not available elsewhere, especially on the relationship between Olivia and her sister, Joan Fontaine. However, I did feel the author was not quite sure when the Golden Age of Hollywood ended - was it the mid 50's or early 60's - he seemed to waver. I would recommend the book to anyone interested in the life of Olivia deHavilland who is one of the last survivor's of Hollywood's Golden Age.… (mehr)

Dark star, the Roy Orbison story by Ellis Amburn
Starts when there is talk of his reckless stunts he'd show off to the fans.
Like haring the back story of his life and the problems he had with his eyes as I also have major eye issues.
Love how he started playing his guitar. Never realized all the travel he put into his career. Covers his whole life from school age, college, married life and onward.
So sad to have lost him at such a young age, he was a great star.

Sex, drugs, and the blues. "I want to burn. I want to smolder." I've always loved her voice. Cheap Thrills was the first record I'd blast whenever my parents left the house.
