Rezensionen

By all appearances this book should be a light, fun read, and it has many reviews to that affect. However, I was ready to quit at about 30%, gave it a few more chances, and finally called it at 50%. I'm always a bit uncertain about the modern rom-com genre going into it, and this book had a lot of things I really don't like, starting with a romance that is much more based on physical attraction than I prefer. Add to that some tropes that make me groan, like the embarrassing "Oops, did I say that out loud?" moments that had already occurred twice by the time I was at 30%. The main character is 10 years older than me, but acts at least 15 years younger than me, making it almost impossible for me to imagine her at the correct age. And what first made me consider quitting on the book was the incredible number of amazing circumstances or rare chances happenings that happen around this woman, including her getting a rare form of an already rare disease, such that the doctor says he's never heard of before, and the difference in this form? She doesn't have the debilitating symptoms that would make the plot of this book unable to happen. What a coinkydink!… (mehr)

I had quite a lot of friends recommending me this book and after reading the “Warning” part of the Copyright, I was sure I would love the book.

The book is about dogs and that automatically adds a star for me, but the plot isn’t as enchanting. I love a closed-door romance but it was the instant “love” that made it blah for me. I like an instant like, or lust, or any emotion really. It’s just that we tend to throw around love too easily. I appreciated Josh and Holly’s moments and would’ve loved to read more of their interactions. I guess the first thing that made me drop the star was Beth and Rocco’s conversation over the phone. First, no, it wasn’t remotely realistic, and second, Rocco seemed a little too desperate when he hired Beth on the first sorry (he wasn’t exactly dying for a dog-watcher and the guy didn’t even know her, for crying out loud. The other moment that made me drop a star was the rehearsal. Sure, it didn’t matter because the kiss was consenting and Beth didn’t seem to mind, but coming from someone who believes your partner must NEVER use deceit with or about you, the moment was a turn-off and lost its value when Beth didn’t even so much as hesitate even after realizing it. I loved Douglas and Houdini, and their partners too, so I added a star back. It was hilarious when Rocco ate the treats, and definitely laugh-worthy when Douglas lost the bet and had to eat ELEVEN of those!

P.S: Rich, if you’re reading this, I would totally read a book about Houdini and Sage!

Honestly, I LOVED Ruth's character. I think she epitomized a fair percentage of the female population climbing their way to the top of corporate America, while still trying to stay in the game life wise. It's definitely a balancing act, and one that she lost sight of until her unfortunate flight (which, by the way, was TOTALLY SCARY! I mean, I placed myself in her shoes for those pages and yeah, no thank you...~shudder~) made her reconsider the importance of her work and home/love life (or lack thereof) ratio. I get it, she was good at what she did, no scratch that...GREAT at what she did...but when do the achievements ever become enough? When does that last one make us feel like the top dog, winner over all, champion of the masses, etc and let us feel comfortable in our life? It's not the number of wins or the height of our successes that make us feel at one with ourselves and our lives, but the ability to bask in their glow with the ones we love. Whether they be blood relations, our chosen family/friends, or a significant other, those bonds allow of to share our feelings of elation and truly shine at our best.

So yes, this is a FABULOUS book that shows the world how women do in fact run things more often than not, but it's also a fun-infused Contemporary Romance that reminds us that no matter how hard we may fall, the ride was worth the effort, so picking yourself back up off the ground and trying again is an absolute must because we owe it to our selves!

Alright guys and gals, this one is definitely for the both of you and it will keep you flicking pages long into the night.

I could see a lot of this one coming a mile away, but you know what? It didn't make a bit of difference. It got me...right here...and all the feels, all the laughs, all the oh-my-word-you-did-not-just-say-that moments, and the final BANG, were truly worth tuning in for. On one line, you have Lori Martin, former nighttime radio show goddess otherwise known as THE person to help solve your love questions with tact and a choice play from her digital library. She is so sweet, treated SO badly by the former boyfriend now ex, and has a fabulous grandma to boot! You couldn't wait to see things turn around for her and you equally felt your heart break when things looked as though they were all over. On our other line, you have Ben Baxter aka Doctor Tough Love who's equally popular morning show is just what it sounds like...doling out tough love advice to equally tough headed guys in need of a wake up call. Thing is...his advice may have seemed harsh and out there, but it was really just a to-the-point way of saying the same things as some other more gentler hostesses might be saying...if you catch my drift. Watching these two spar it out verbally, only to find they may not be as opposite as they at first thought, will totally make your day.

Total recommendation for Romantic Comedy and Contemporary Romance fans alike.
