Two paper books in case.
This is a very pretty book though not really very useful for heraldic scholarship. It is a series of pages showing beasts used in heraldry, with one heraldic example and one realistic image of the creature in each illustration, and a few comments on the facing page.
This is one my daughter always enjoyed when she was small. It has beautiful illustrations of woodland animals preparing for Christmas, with a simple rhyme to accompany the scenes and 25 flaps to open.
A very, very nice introductory book. More detail is here on preparing tools and materials than in many introductory books. Only Roman and Italic alphabets are included, but they are actually discussed in a useful way. Ideas for using calligraphy and fine handwriting on a regular basis are included, as are discussions of spacing and layout of projects, plus lists (ca. 1977) of suppliers and associations.
Not included: color, either in examples or in discussion; an index; extra alphabets. However, at 120 pages this is a readable and digestible book, in chapters that are logical. Several longer books could be written on the topics of each chapter, but this is a good book for getting started *thinking* and *doing.*… (mehr)
