Mark Asquith

"The Lost Frontier" is an erudite work of criticism on Annie Proulx's "Wyoming Stories" while also giving the reader an understanding of the mythological West. Asquith divides his analysis by theme: landscape, pioneers, cowboys, Indians and losers. This works well and allows the author to tie in his analysis across the three separate collections of the "Wyoming Stories". At times, Asquith's prose is a bit repetitive and he goes into a bit too much detail that can obfuscate his point but overall this is an impressive and engaging work of scholarship.… (mehr)
