THE HERMITAGE HOUSE MIRACLE, by Malcolm Ater

A very short, sweet story of a boy who remembers nothing from before his first day at school, for a very good reason, which I will not ruin for you. He does not have a storybook life after that and ends up at The Hermitage House, a genteel but crumbling children's home that once housed many children. The home has lost financial backing and is deteriorating, but the original director, Sister Catherine, is still able to take in a very few children, but not for long, thanks to state codes and regulations.

There is a somewhat mysterious aspect to this story, but it does not render the story "supernatural." So do yourself a favor and take a short time to read this story.

Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this story in return for a review. Per the agreement with NetGalley.com I will post this review on Amazon, B&N, Goodreads, LibraryThing and on a blog I am preparing for reviews.

Jamie Wilson's is taken to Hermitage House Orphange when his Mother is killed in a car accident. After arriving Jamie starts to have dreams of a family that he doesn't remember and he begins to question all that he knows about himself.

I really enjoyed reading this book and following Jamie through the his discoveries about himself and those around him. You could feel his frustration with the adults around him as they tried to help but could never seem to find a way. The book is very well written with great character development that allows you to feel the frustration and joy of one searching for what he has lost.… (mehr)

5 STARS I had to give it 5 stars because I got so emotional in a few places. Cried lots of tears, sad tears, joyful tears. So yes I got lost in the book and cared about the characters. I liked the characters. The children who opened their hearts to the new orphans. The Sisters who took care of the children and loved them and worried about them. Jamie is brought to the orphange after his mothers death and when they could not find any family for Jamie. Jamie loved having his own room. He never had his own room or a bed so nice. Jamie is 12 year old boy. He was used to moving every six months to a year. He would write letters to his friends giving them his new address and he never got any letters back. Antonio was a little younger than Jamie and had the room next to him. Antonio was showing Jamie around. They promised they would be friends forever. Starting that first night Jamie began dreaming of a little boy with freckles and green eyes and someone who was calling him son. Sometimes the dreams would have a little girl,a mother and a dog named Scout. The sisters told Jamie that they were just dreams. They worried about his dreams. Jamie had never had friends to play with after school, never went to parks, fishing or anything. With Antonio he fished, played with and came out of his shell. Jamie still had dreams all the time and they seemed so real to him, but he did not tell anyone except Antonio about them any more. I liked the story but could have done without the tears. I would read more from Malcolm. Thier were some twists to the story that I did not expect, some that I did guess. It was nice to hear about an orphanage that cared about the kids. Though it did have problems and I still wonder about them. I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley. 05/26/2012 PUB Blue Ridge Mountain Books Acorn Book Service… (mehr)

Inspirational. That is the only word that comes to mind while searching for a description of this back.

Tyler Moore was a young man with cystic fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is defined as "a chronic lung disease that causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs making it difficult to breathe. There is no cure."

Tyler was an amazing person. He wished to overcome this beast of a disease and join the school's wrestling team. He did just that.

By reading this book, you will learn about wrestling, you will learn about cystic fibrosis, but most importantly, you will learn about courage, determination, values and friendship.

This is a well written book. It flows easily. The book is even more inspirational when you realize Tyler is a real person, not just a character in a novel. It is a beautiful story. This book is a testament to Tyler's life and his determination.

A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS BOOK IS DONATED TO THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION.
