This was an interesting journey back through time. If you are interested in what role the Troubadours played through europe, what they wrote and how they wrote it, then this book is an excellent insight. It is written in a scholarly format, but it is most interesting.

Aubrey's book is one of the best introductions to the main issues involved in examining the works of the troubadours. So many scholars choose their allegiance to either the musicolgical or the literary; Aubrey might be a musicologist but her work will offer insight to musicologists and literary scholars alike.
The text provides helpful tools like: a glossary of important terms, an index of troubadours with their Pillet-Carstens numbers, and a great bibliography.
