Kurzbiographie
Justine Avery is an award-winning author of stories large and small for all. Born in the American Midwest and raised all over the world, she is inherently an explorer, duly fascinated by everything around her and excitedly noting the stories that abound all around. As an avid reader of all genres, she weaves her own stories among them all. She has a predilection for writing speculative fiction and story twists and surprises she can't even predict herself.

Avery has either lived in or explored all 50 states of the union, over 36 countries, and all but one continent; she lost count after moving 30-some times before the age of 20. She's intentionally jumped out of airplanes and off the highest bungee jump in New Zealand, scuba dived unintentionally with sharks, designed websites, intranets, and technical manuals, bartered with indigenous Panamanians, welded automobile frames, observed at the Bujinkan Hombu Dojo in Noba, Japan, and masterminded prosperous internet businesses-to name a few adventures. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree that life has never required, and at age 28, she sold everything she owned and quit corporate life-and her final "job"-to freelance and travel the world as she always dreamed of. And she's never looked back.

Aside from her native English, Avery speaks a bit of Japanese and a bit more Spanish, her accent is an ever-evolving mixture of Midwestern American with notes of the Deep South and indiscriminate British vocabulary and rhythm, and she says "eh"-like the Kiwis, not the Canadians. She currently lives between Los Angeles and London with her husband, British film director Devon Avery, and their adored children. She writes from wherever her curiosity takes her.

This book pulls up meaning from the depths of the author's heart, polishes it, and lets it shine. The beloved creative phrase "think outside the box" is defined with more passion than Merriam Webster could ever dream of as readers are given instances when thinking creatively may be necessary, and then shown what that can look like with relatable examples in both clear wording, and clever illustration. I love this book.

What a cute story this is. A lovely bedtime read for young children. The illustrations are magnificent and remind me a little of my first ever book I read at 3 years old.

Justine Avery’s The Darkness is a compelling short story about which I cannot say much without spoiling the plot. It ranks high for originality. If a master horror writer raised a pen to draft a gospel story for Biblical inclusion, The Gospel according to Justine could make a good start with Darkness. Everyone in a community must be a steward of light. A failed steward is a dead steward. You must be the light of the world.

Avery provides rich (and respectful) material for multiple allusions to salvationist theology. Whereas the main characters are prepubescent males enduring a test of salvation, one is tempted to see an allegorical picture of what Jesus and John might have been like as teenagers. I cannot stretch too much out of a short story. Just a thought.… (mehr)

I got this as an ebook for LibraryThing Early Reviewer

This is a beautifully illustrated children book that goes into the transition from daily activity to winding down to go to sleep and then the dreaming part.
The rhymes are nice too
