This cute book is about a girl who is everything else but ordinary. From the moment she was born to the time she started school she was clearly different from the other kids. Her parents encouraged her wild imagination. This story shows that children should be allowed to express themselves and not always sought out to be different or stubborn.

Summary: Olive is turning 7 and she wants a pirate birthday party. Her parents can't have it at their house so her old Aunt Tiffany said she would do it but she is proper and old and no fun. Olive was nervous for the party and so she brought her own decorations, however, Aunt Tiffany threw her the best pirate birthday ever.
Genre: This is realistic fiction because the author uses real humans and has a girl wanting the best birthday ever. Most kids want a fun exciting birthday party that everyone will like. Also, Olive had a family member that is old and not usually fun but turns fun becuase she loves her niece enough to throw her a birthday she has wanted.
Characterization: The author develops Aunt Tiffany in the story as a flat character at the beginning of the book and then more of a round character towards the end. At first, Aunt Tiffany is portrayed as old, boring, lady-like, and not one to throw a good party. Olive's mind was changed when she saw her aunt on her birthday and the party that she had thrown for her and how amazing it was.
