Soviets von Danzig Baldaev
Fascinating book, would have been much improved by dates of publication of the cartoons.
For readers like me (you know, the ones who have difficulty getting through book-length nonfiction) Soviets is a great way to get some background on sociopolitical and sociocultural aspects of the Soviet era. Baldaev's caricatures and Vasiliev's photos, all in black and white, along with quotes from other books and annotations, combine for a sharp and darkly humorous look at things.

It's not really right to say I "liked" this book -- it's a graphic (in more ways than one) account of the horrors of the Gulag system, making it an uncomfortable book to read. That's part of what makes the book so valuable, though: Baldaev is unsparing in his drawn and written descriptions.
