Absolute drivel new age pap. A rich Guatemalan kid rebelling against his parents (like 1960s hippies in the US) who decides to adopt neo-Mayan jargon and talk to some elders and write a book. No joke, under his name on the cover is "Shaman and Member of the Mayan Elders Council." Right. A council. No joke, pp. 40-45: the Mayans are related to Tibetans, and some cosmic energy runs from Tibet up to China, Siberia, across to Alaska, down the Rockies, then through Mexico and Central America to Panama when... "Here's where they cut Mother Earth. That's why the energy couldn't continue. Now it's returning. causing pain and destruction." Really. You read that right. Cosmic earth energy can hop the Bering Strait and move over mountains but the Panama Canal is too tough for it. And the havoc caused by the messed up energy caused all the pain and badness of the 20th century. Really. No word on what this peaceful cosmic energy was doing before the Panama Canal was completed. Apparently it couldn't stop the crusades, the Napoleonic Wars, the American Civil War, whatever. What patent crap. One star for the images.… (mehr)

Even though the The Book of Destiny is non-fiction, it is for anyone who enjoys themes like Raiders of the Lost Ark or the Stargate genre. This book is a quick read and purports to give us insight into the beginnings of humanity on this planet by sharing the oral history of the Mayan Elders of a civilization that thrived around 5,500 years ago. The author, Carlos Barrios, explains how he becomes involved with the Mayan Elders and then outlines key historical events and prophecies. Included in the prophecies is the existence and purpose of the crystal skulls. It is well worth a read, if for nothing else then to peak your interests in archeology and open your mind to new ideas on possible human histories.

If you are interested in how the heavens may give you some insight into your daily life, the last half of the book explains the Maya signs and provides charts so that you can determine what sign you were born under (much like the signs of the Zodiac, only a little more complicated in the way you determine your sign).
