Shaftesbury: The Great Reformer 1801-1885 von Georgina. Battiscombe
A thorough description of his life by someone who can sympathise with his views yet look objectively at his life and times. There is an appropriate emphasis on the duration of his commitment to unfashionable causes, and also a satisfying account of his family life, and that of his contacts. His Christian views are explored with understanding and respect but helpfully put into context.
