Elle est l'auteur d'albums et de romans: la série "Le club des poneys" (Nathan, 2012), "Le sourire de la guerre" (Oskar, 2012), prix du livre d'Histoire de Blois 2014, "Les autres mode d'emploi" (Oskar, 2014), et de plusieurs documentaires pour la jeunesse: "Bientôt citoyen" (Casterman, 2012), "La Mythologie" (Gallimard, 2014) ainsi que de livres animés très appréciés par les plus jeunes: "Kididoc des Pourquoi" (Nathan, 2010), "Kididoc des Animaux" (Nathan, 2014).

Elle s'associe avec Pascale Perrier pour plusieurs créations dont "Là-bas, tout ira bien" (2019), un roman d'anticipation qui porte sur l'émigration de familles depuis une France en crise.

Elle est directrice de la collection "Poil à gratter".

Mariée et mère de deux enfants, elle vit à Évreux.

Greek Gods and Heroes: Meet 40 mythical immortals… von Sylvie Baussier

I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I adore Greek mythology, which is why I was really excited to pick up this book for children that introduces 40 Greek Gods and Heroes with illustrations. I expected it to be an easy read, and I was surprised by how much I struggled to read it.

I understand that Greek mythology with all its twists and turns and multiple versions can be really difficult to summarise, but in this case, trying to sum up several complicated stories in a few sentences mostly just left me with a lot of whiplash and a constant "wait, who was that person again?".

As for the art, I'm conflicted. It's all kind of simple, and I thought it would grow on me, but I ended up not really liking it.

The format of the book with the little sections on each page looks clever, but I really struggled to read some of the smaller fonts.

Overall, this book was a disappointment for me with a lot of confusion, but maybe others will feel differently about it.… (mehr)

I have always been fascinated by Greek Mythology and over the years, have read several different books about it, this is a good one for people who want a brief introduction to many of the Gods, Titans and Immortals. The book is written in two-page chapters, highlighting a different entity in each. The accompanying graphics are attractive and colourful. but not everyone likes the style. They are well researched with accurate facts and figures on each of the figures. Some of the myths are simplified for the young target audience, but I think the reader/parent or caregiver needs to pre-read this book before letting young children read it. The Gods often participated in disturbing behaviour such as incest, eating other gods, or children, that might not be appropriate for younger children. As well as the myths associated with them, each portrait includes genealogy, allies, enemies and history. Even though I am an adult, I learned some things from the book and there were some heroes and immortals that I was not familiar with. This is a great resource book for lovers of literature as there is often mention of stories or characters from mythology that may not be familiar to readers and this would give them a quick background. A great addition to school or public libraries. The publisher, Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. 40 mythical immortals are featured in this book: backstories, family relationships, Roman names, etc.
Each of the 40 Greek gods/goddesses/heroes/heroines is given a very visually appealing 2-page illustrated spread.
This is a nice survey book, with a perfect array of tidbits of Greek mythology for a juvenile non-fiction reader.
