Introducción

Este libro no es una nueva biografía de santo Domingo.
Ha sido concebido más bien como una semblanza espiritual
que se propone desvelar la serenidad de un rostro y
escrutar los rasgos de un siervo de Dios. Pero era impensa-
ble hacerlo aislando de su contexto la figura del fundador
de una nueva familia religiosa, que da lugar en la Iglesia a
una sensibilidad especial -a un temperamento espiritual-
mejor diríamos, a una gracia propia.

Casi cada siglo ha tenido su «santo Domingo». Cada cual
se ha formado su imagen, desde el deferente y conmovedor
Libellus, que Jordán de Sajonia escribió para pregonar la
santidad de su predecesor al frente de los Predicadores, has-
ta el siglo pasado, con la flamante Vida de santo Domingo
escrita por Lacordaire «con mano decisiva», como él mismo
dijo. En nuestros días, además de los escritos de H. Petitot,
de Beda Jarret y, más recientemente, del P. Régamey, por
mencionar tres generaciones diferentes, hemos conocido la
miniatura de Bernanos y el gran retablo del P. Vicaire, en...… (mehr)

In the Image of Saint Dominic is an excellent collection of 10 short biographies (nine of Dominicans and one of St. Dominic himself), which showcase the various ways the Christian life interacts with the world. If I understand the afterword correctly, they were originally used in a retreat setting and then edited for this volume. Each chapter contains a brief overview of the life of the Dominican sister or brother and then an excerpt from the reading of his feast, the Feast of All Dominican Saints, or a reading from another holyday which is an excerpt from the subject's writing. All in all it's an excellent volume for anyone interested in the Order of Preachers or Catholic saints lives. Such a shame that it's out of print.… (mehr)
