Anelie Belden

Thoroughly Modern Dresden by Anelie Belden is a relatively new book about the dresden quilting block. I have previously made straight blade dresden blocks, which are one of the easiest, according to Belden. After reading this book, I am certain that I will be making more dresden blocks for quilts from now on. The book covers several different types of dresdens, the parts of the dresden, how to cut and press these blocks, and many new ideas for using the blocks. I am especially impressed with the photos for the many projects. The Christmas wreath would make a great wallhanging for this season, and there is an equally nice one for Valentine's Day, called Romancing the Reds. My favorite photo and quilt in this book is the German Chocolate Quilt! This one even makes your mouth water when you look at the photo, which includes gorgeous chocolate browns and creams, straight out of a candy shop! This dresden pattern has split blades, which make the quilt appear as if the blades are actually spinning!
