I love this book because readers are able to predict the story patterns, the pictures are bright and inviting to young children.

Hajdusiewicz’s Why Dainty Dinosaur? is a beginner reader book about a little girl’s curiosity concerning the wheelchair ramp on the house next door to her. She watches the ramp go up with her pal the dainty dinosaur and questions its existence on the empty house next door. She watches as the moving people arrive, followed by the new family moving in. The little girl is first elated to see a little boy around her age, but then assumes he cannot play with her when his dad carries him into the house like a baby. She is pleasantly surprised to find that he can in fact play with her with the help of his wheelchair. The two children have a great time playing all different games together in his new house and in the yard, which he can easily get to with the use of the new wheelchair ramp. This is a great story, told in just a few words that can easily be read by a beginner reader. It is one that a child with a handicap can relate to, and other children can learn from.… (mehr)
